Self-Care puts your health in your hands: Test. Track. Thrive.
Self-Care Month starts on 24 June.
This year’s theme is: Self-Care puts your health in your hands: Test. Track. Thrive.
Test – when you need a baseline. To help maintain and improve your health and well-being, you need a clear picture of where you are now.
Track – when you want to see any patterns and introduce/increase self-care actions like eating healthily, exercise and getting enough sleep.
Thrive –live with confidence and watch your health bloom.
How to get involved during Self-Care Month?
Why not do that test/s you have been putting off? It could be an HIV self-test, or a pregnancy self-test, or indeed any other test. Once you know where you stand, you can start to take control.
And, why not try our 7-Day Track and Thrive challenge? Pick one thing – your sleep; how many steps you take each day; what you eat; your mood…etc. And track it for 7 days. The insights you gain will help you make adjustments towards a healthier you.
Your health is your biggest asset, so don't wait for pain or illness; take control by practising a bit of self-care every day during Self-Care Month and beyond.
Why does self-care matter?
Self-Care matters because it:
- protects and maintains your physical and mental health and well-being
- reduces stress & builds resilience
- helps you cope with life’s challenges
- helps keep your body and mind functioning well.
Every bit of self-care you do contributes to a healthier you.
Did you know there are two parts to self-care?
Self-care actions and self-care interventions.
Self-care actions
Self-care actions include healthy practices, habits and lifestyle choices, such as eating a healthy diet, being physically active, refraining from tobacco, avoiding alcohol consumption, getting enough sleep and connecting with others.
Self-care interventions
Self-care interventions can include diagnostics to screen for conditions such as HIV, or a pregnancy self-test; devices for self-monitoring conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, and drugs such as over-the-counter emergency contraception or paracetamol.
