The WHO South-East Asia Regional Office launched a new framework and tool to help countries strengthen facility-based breastfeeding, and thereby, early initiation and support for breastfeeding.
The framework uses three monitoring mechanisms across facility, sub-national, and national levels, ensuring that each level uses data from the level below without duplicating data collection.
It includes two practical tools: A Facility Assessment Tool and a set of HMIS sentinel indicators for routine monthly reporting. Both tools are modular and can be integrated into existing national quality assurance systems, avoiding parallel reporting structures.
