World No Tobacco Day

When summer temperatures soared in Jatni, youth volunteers from the Jatni Yuva Shakti Club did not wait, they acted. Mobilized under the Young Gamechangers Initiative and supported by WHO India, they distributed over 200 oral rehydration salts (ORS) packets to daily wage workers, street vendors, traffic police and older adults at risk of heat stroke and dehydration. They demonstrated correct ORS preparation, shared practical heat-safety tips, and set up ORS corners at anganwadi centres, while engaging with self-help groups to sustain access for vulnerable families, directly benefiting more than 200 people. In Sudasar Kachi Basti, a high-risk urban settlement in Jaisalmer, WHO worked closely with the district health department to turn vaccine hesitancy into community confidence. Through Ratri Chaupal—nighttime dialogues with the community—and systematic follow-up by frontline workers at the anganwadi centre (child and daycare centre), families embraced immunization. The result: the proportion of unvaccinated children dropped dramatically from 75% to 20% within three months, protecting many more children from vaccine-preventable diseases.
