WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre
The WHO Global Traditional Medicine Centre (GTMC) is a knowledge hub for traditional medicine. As part of WHO’s overall traditional medicine strategy, it has a strategic focus on research and evidence, strengthening health systems, sustainability and equity, and innovation and technology to optimize the contribution of traditional medicine to global health and sustainable development. At the same time, respect for local heritages, resources and rights is a guiding principle.

Global Traditional Medicine Strategy 2025-2034

The Global Traditional Medicine Strategy 2025–2034 represents the World Health Organization’s (WHO) renewed commitment to ensuring universal access to safe, effective, and people-centred traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine (TCIM). Building on the foundations laid by previous strategies (2002–2005 and 2014–2023), this new strategy provides a clear vision, goals, guiding principles, and four strategic objectives, each supported by actionable directions for Member States, partners, stakeholders, and WHO.

The strategy was formally adopted by the Seventy-eighth World Health Assembly (WHA78) in 2025, following its submission through the Executive Board at its 156th session. Its approval marks a significant milestone in global health policy, reaffirming the importance of TCIM in achieving universal health coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals.
